What Good Is Energy?

You hear me talk about improving your energy levels and endurance. I connect low energy to performance, joy, clarity of thought, and engagement in life. You of course have your own thoughts about what energy means to you, and how it affects your life.

You may experience resistance to some of my ideas about energy thinking I’m referring to the speed at which you move, work, and think. But, speed isn’t at all what I have in mind when I talk about having a strong, stable energy level. This isn’t a tortoise and hare discussion where fast is good and slow is bad. The tortoise and the hare both get the job done, just in different ways. They have different styles of accomplishing their goals.

Maybe your style is “fast like the wind”, or “slow and steady”. Maybe you’re the vibrant and active “cheerleader” type, or the quiet and understated “scholarly” type, or have something in between going for you. Just as you have your own style, you have your own goal(s) that lead and drive you. Cool!

Energy is the fuel that gets things done without having to coast or stop short of the goal. When you don’t have control of when you coast, stop, or change direction, you aren’t in control of your life. When you don’t have control of your life you most likely are missing out on joy and satisfaction.

Think about taking a car trip. For the best trip, you have a destination in mind (goal or project), the gas tank is full (energy level), you have a credit card (or cash supply) to buy more gas along the way (energizing techniques), the car is tuned so it’s running on all cylinders (proper nutrition and sleep), and the car is clean so you have a clear view of where you are going (clear thinking, as opposed to foggy thinking). If you are missing any of those elements, your car trip changes, the experience often is less enjoyable than you had anticipated or desired. Or, to put it into your life’s context, your day is less that satisfactory; your day might be downright miserable!

It’s a great analogy for living your life! Energy is what drives your actions, thoughts, and even the goals you set. A great life requires a stable and strong supply of energy, and goals. Your life may be “good enough”, “not quite what it used to be”, or even “acceptable”, but is it all that you want? Is your life great?

What good is energy? It’s good for making your life all that you want it to be. It gives you the staying power to complete your goals. It gives you thinking clarity. It gives you what it takes to create and live the live you dream of, aspire to.

You may be wondering about now, what can you do if you don’t have enough energy? What if you don’t have enough energy to live a vibrant life, to live the life you dream of and want? Then what? Take heart, it can be improved. You can get help. That’s what I work with my clients about — helping them find the solutions to their energy problems.

There may be several reasons for you being low energy. I can help you get clarity on what you want and what you are can do to gain and maintain your energy levels. You can get unstuck and move forward toward your goals of the life you want to live. Together, we can develop a routine — a map if you will — for how you can develop new habits that will work for you, not against you.

Variety is the spice of life! Enjoy your style of energy. And, keep your energy strong and stable so you can enjoy all your life has to offer, and so that you have more to offer your life.
