Road signs help us navigate our trip — our journey. Signs like Stop, Yield, Curve or Sharp Curve, Slow Children Playing, Deer Crossing, Dead End, Detour, Speed Limits, Bump, and Dip help you adjust your driving.
It’s the Bump and Dip signs I want to talk about. They jar you the most and without doing much damage to you or anyone else. You know what road signs on streets and highways look like. How well do you heed them?
In contrast, what do those signs look like in your life? Do you heed them…or even see them? Signs like a scratchy throat which means a cold could be coming on, a sore shoulder or know means you might need physical therapy, and back pain could mean it’s time to see the chiropractor. Ignore the signs and the problems get worse, or at least you get or stay more uncomfortable.
Not all Bumps and Dips get signs, though. Unforeseen events can derail or detain your project, gas pricing going up can pinch your upcoming trip, or a hail storm destroys your garden. What do you do? How do you handle that?
Do you accept, take action, whine, or snarl? For how long?
If you fall into the whining and snarling group then it’s time to use the tools I’ve given you. Reach for the RAID and pull out your Decision Filter. Maybe recite the Serenity Prayer. RAID stands for Reframe, Alternate Action or Solution, Inquire, and Decide to be Positive. The Decision Filter separates the events and issues you can work on and those you can let go. If the event that is put into your life sticks in the filter then it’s yours to take action on, process, or delegate. If the event flows on through the filter let it go or reach for the RAID.
How you react to the bumps and dips along your path makes all the difference in how well you live. Choose to live well by anticipating the bumps and dips and be ready to deal with whatever comes your way.
